Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, one of the world's most sought-after drug lords, has been captured, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announced Friday.
"Mission accomplished!" the president said via his Twitter account.

He was captured again today at 4:30am in a firefight between his bodyguards and Mexican Marine special forces in the Sinaloa city of Los Mochis, on the Pacific coast and not far from his home, government officials said. Five of his associates were killed, six injured and several captured, the navy said. One marine was wounded.

DW: Cologne police chief sent into provisional retirement after NYE assaults

Cologne's head of police has been suspended after allegations he withheld information on the New Year's Eve sexual assaults. The state's interior minister said to expect more details from the investigation next week.

The city's police chief, Wolfgang Albers, was provisionally relieved of his duties, North Rhine Westphalia's Interior Minister Ralf Jäger told journalists in the state capital of Düsseldorf on Friday. "This step is important so that public trust and the Cologne police's ability to act can be restored," Jäger said, justifying his decision.

The interior minister said that he personally spoke to Albers and that the police chief showed "a great deal of understanding." The official decision came shortly after police were criticized for their inability to prevent around 1,000 men from robbing and sexually harassing women at Cologne's central station on December 31.

WNU Editor: I did not expect this story to become as big as it has become in Germany .... and in the rest of Europe. But the reason why it is a big story is simple ..... it happened. It is also extremely embarrassing to the Merkel government and to those who advocated this massive refugee influx, and what made it worst were their attempts to downplay it while even more victims were coming forward. And as much as the death of a young boy who drowned while his family were trying to flee to Greece captivated the world on the horrific plight of Syria's refugees last year, this incident is probably going to do the opposite.

Gunmen attack Egyptian hotel where foreign tourists use

Three armed men have reportedly stormed a hotel in the Red Sea city of Hurghada, one of Egypt's most popular tourist resorts.

The attack took place at Bella Vista Hotel on today, Ahram Online reported. A hotel worker told the newspaper that at least two tourists had been injured.

Security sources confirmed to Reuters that two tourists were injured adding that the assailants arrived by sea to carry out the attack.

State television reported that Egyptian security forces killed one of the gunmen.

There have been no official reports on casualties so far.

The latest assault comes as shortly after Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) claimed responsibility for a Thursday attack on Israeli tourists in Cairo. Last month, IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi called on supporters to target Jews "everywhere."

There were no further casualties, Egyptian authorities reported, adding that the assailants had been trying to target security forces, not the tourists.

After his July 2015 escape from prison by digging a tunnel ,drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has finally been captured. This is according to the official twitter handle of Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto

"Mission Accomplished," the President wrote. "We have him."

The world's most dangerous drug trafficker's spectacular escape through a one-mile tunnel under the Altiplano prison, west of Mexico City, came 16 months after his arrest...

On his part,Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose has slammed the Federal government over the continuous detention of PDP spokesperson,Olisah Metuh .In a statement on Friday ,he said

"The EFCC appears to be operating a system in which an accused person is first arrested, detained endlessly while the anti-corruption agency goes about looking for evidence,"In saner climes, you don't arrest people for alleged fraud and start to look for evidence to prosecute them.Rather, before you arrest anyone for fraud, anti-corruption agencies must have established a prima facie case and arresting the suspect will only be to enable for his or her arraignment in court.

"However, what we are witnessing in Nigeria today is a situation whereby the EFCC will arrest PDP leaders, humiliate them by subjecting them to media trial, detain them for weeks in the process of trying to force them to make statements during which the commission will be looking for evidence.

On his part,Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has warned that continued detention of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh is unhealthy for democracy .

In a statement signed yesterday by his Special Adviser, Media, Uche Anichukwu, Senator Ekweremadu said,"

the continued detention of the PDP mouthpiece was an attempt to gag the opposition and therefore unhealthy for democracy.An anti-graft trap that catches only members of the opposition and those with axe to grind with the government of the day is compromised."

CNN: Police: Officer shooting suspect pledges allegiance to ISIS

The 30-year-old man suspected of shooting and injuring a Philadelphia police officer Thursday night said that he pledges his allegiance to the Islamic State, and that is the reason that he committed the shooting, an official said at a police news conference Friday.

Philadelphia police Officer Jesse Hartnett shouted desperately into his police radio after someone, authorities say, approached his patrol car and shot him as he sat there Thursday night.

"Shots fired! ... I'm bleeding heavily!" Hartnett shouts in a recording of his radio call for backup. "I'm bleeding. Get us another unit out here!"

Hartnett not only survived but managed to fire back and wound the gunman after what authorities say was an apparent attempt to execute the officer at a city intersection.
