Remember last year, there was a protest in the University of Lagos over terrible beds, bed bug pandemic and the sorry state of the halls of residence which gained coverage in Punch Newspaper, Linda Ikeji's blog etc.
Well the school management has commenced changing the beds in the hostel and fumigation. While this is viewed as a commendable step in the right direction, the fate of the students who led the protests hang in the balance as they have been summoned to face disciplinary action for dragging to the mud the image of the university.

While these students may face expulsion or rustication for some semesters, everyone is calm since the management have decided to be co-operative for once.

Top Mobil Engineer alleged to have raped a 14 year old girl in Lagos

NOW THE NEWS IN FULL.....

Jan 12th 2016, 07:13

This is a press statement from Women Association of The Good People on an alleged rape committed by a top Exxon Mobil engineer. His name and photos was sent in but we will leave that out first until we get a confirmation from the police. Read story below..

On Monday, 4th of January 2016, the man who works With Exxon Mobil and also a landlord of a property on the island raped a 14 year old who happened to be the niece of his tenant.
On that faithful day, the man decided to visit the home of his tenants who owed him rent. They had advised him earlier that they wouldn't be at home and only their 14 year old niece and 3 year old daughter would be home. He knocked on their flat and was attended to by the 14 year old who told the landlord her Uncle and Aunty weren't home. He insisted on entering the home of his tenants to wait for them. The naive 14-year old girl who had only been in Lagos for 3 weeks, opened the door and let the man in.

According to the victim, he checked the visitor's toilet to confirm no one was home. He then checked the room, the wardrobe and bathroom, after not finding anyone, he started talking to the 14 year old, asking her details like her name and age.

The man, who is meant to be a responsible citizen performed a dastardly act and pushed the young girl on the bed and while she tried to scream he covered her mouth and forcefully had his way with her, in presence of the 3 year old!

In a bid to console her, he offered her N1, 000 and left.

Her aunty came home and met the young 14-year-old girl hysterical and inconsolable. The girl was unable to answer after asking her what happened repeatedly but to everyone's amazement, it was the 3 year old who recounted the story to her mum "Mummy landlord came, he push Aunty C on the bed and he do like this like this on top of her"  innocently describing to her mum and recreating the movements she saw.

This was obviously distressing to the woman who called her husband. He rushed home and reported the incident at the police station located in Lamgbasa. The police asked for medical report, which they got the next morning. The doctor's report did confirm she was "forcefully penetrated "; the doctor on his own accord flagged the human rights office.

However, despite contact being made with the man, his employer and the police of this serious allegation, the man has not been apprehended till date.

As of 8th January 2016, he failed to report to the police station at 9am as promised instead he called the victim's family (his tenants) repeatedly and tried to convince them to meet. His calls prior to this were threats to evict them.

We are concerned citizens saddened by the state of affairs in which numerous bodies are aware of this serious matter and the suspect is yet to be apprehended.

We feel we have no choice but to release this information to the public in the hope that the case gets the necessary attention it deserves and that the perpetrator is brought to justice.

We hope this also deters other closet pedophiles from committing such a disgusting act against women and children.

Mixed blessing as couple gets quadruplets after 8 yrs of wedlock (photo)

NOW THE NEWS IN FULL.....

Jan 12th 2016, 07:07

Married in 2007, Mr and Mrs Ololade Samson Olusola never knew that they would wait for eight years before having children from their loins. The fruit of the womb in many climes remarkably is the high point of any marital union. While some are wont to adopt children, a good number of couples prefer to have their own children. Both in pristine and modern African settings, barrenness is frowned at. The stigma, the frustration and the societal victimization are in themselves worrying for those who are yet to have children.

It is therefore against this backdrop that one can appreciate the repeated dissatisfaction that attended the union of the Olusolas. The children were not forthcoming. Yet, for them, they had no other choice but to trust entirely in God.

In an interaction with Nigerian Tribune, the father of the newborns stated that "We got married on March 10, 2007. I am a civil servant and so also is my wife. We never expected that we would wait this long to have children. We tried all we could both medically and spiritually. It is disturbing that here in Africa, a marriage that does not produce children is seen as unsuccessful.
"After the first few years without any child, people said all kinds of things. But my wife was very resolute that God would take charge of our situation. We kept taking the different medications that we were given. The year 2015 became significant because that was the year that my wife got pregnant. When we went for the scan and were told that she was carrying four babies, I was shocked. But there was nothing that I could do but to pray that my wife and children are fine after the delivery. I was advised that considering the number of babies to be expected, it would be safe to register for ante-natal treatment at OSUTH. We were told by the doctors that it was possible that just two or three could survive. But we prayed that none of them would die.

"When the babies came in November last year, we knew that the implication of their birth would be financial. Whatever we buy must be in fourfold. I can't query God for this. But we need all the financial support that we can get in raising the children."
Speaking on the various forms of assistance that the family had gotten since the birth of the babies, he stated that "Friends, family members have been tremendous in assisting us. We understand that things are difficult but we are very grateful for what people have been giving us. We do realize that the entire world is going through economic recession but people have been wonderful to us. We are grateful to the Methodist Church in Nigeria. We are grateful to Winners Church. They have assisted us in no great measure. We are also grateful to Obafemi Owode Local Government Area in Ogun State for helping us. The health sector there also sent us money. Even the health sector in Ikenne Local Government Area also assisted us in no small measure."
He also added that the reason that they did not initially call for help was because the mother of the children was still undergoing treatment at the hospital. "We couldn't go public at the initial stage when the children were born because my wife was re-admitted at the hospital for about a month because she needed to get well properly. But she is well now which is why we decided to make the birth of the children public and ask for help. They were born on November 6, 2015. We want people to come and assist us in the area of the children's education and in their upkeep. The firstborn is Ifeoluwa, the second is Oluwapemisire, the third is Anuoluwa and the fourth is Temiotan. They were all born on the same day through a C-section. They are two boys and two girls. The first is a girl; the second a boy; the third is a girl and the last is a boy," he said.
Looking quite exhausted when she spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, the mother of the babies, Mrs Samson Olusola stated that while she didn't expect the number of the children to be four, she was however grateful to God for the safe delivery, noting that the challenge before them was how to raise the four of them.

According to her, "When we got married and we could not have babies, people said all kinds of things but my husband and family stood by me. I was introduced to all kinds of drugs and even prayers. Eight years can be described as long when waiting to get pregnant and give birth to a baby. They are four of them. We thank God. I am grateful to God for the delivery. All we are saying is seeking the help of good Nigerians in taking care of the children. I know that God gave them to us and he will send help in taking care of them."

The elder sister to the father of the children, Mrs Akinwale Omotola who was with the family when Nigerian Tribune visited, appealed for support for the family, just as she added that for those who are yet to have children in their marriages, there is a big possibility that the miraculous could still happen.
"I am the elder sister to the father of the quadruplets. It is wonderful what God did for the family. But the challenge is to take care of the children. I am yet to have a child after marriage but I am using this medium to tell everyone who is expecting that God can still do the impossible. We need all the help in taking care of the children," she said.
In an interaction with a medical expert on the likelihood of such multiple births and the reasons,
Dr Stephen Ayodele Adewole, senior lecturer at the Ondo State University of Medical Science stated that the use of fertility drugs could be a pre-disposing factor.
According to him, "Well, the use of fertility drugs is a possible pre-disposing factor but it is by no means a reason why such women give birth to more than one after a long wait. Age is the most determining factor here; the older the woman, the more likely the occurrence of such."
For Dr Moses Rotimi, a fellow of the West African College of Surgeon, consultant of Obstetrics and gynaecology and the Medical Director of Delight Hospital and Fertility Centre, Challenge, Ibadan, "If they've been using drugs, that is to say they've gone for IVF. Some eggs are selected for fertilisation and in most cases, it could be an average of three. But sometimes, the patient could say the number she wishes to have. If eventually all the eggs are fertilised, it becomes what you see, which could be the woman having two or more babies at once. Again, because of the age in consideration, when a woman that has waited for 10 or more years after marriage eventually conceive, age may not be on her side to get more children and the moment they successfully conceive about three at a time, then, it's once and for all."

NB: The parents of the children can be reached on 08034017425, 08058869237 or 08028211694.

KFB Health Talk: Save yourself from heart-breaking cholesterol in chicken skin

Read..This is the news for you ....peeps ...always come back for more......culled from kfb

NOW THE NEWS IN FULL.....

Jan 12th 2016, 07:02

Howdy Kfbers? Today on know your own health, we are talking about cholesterol, written by:
Chicken is unarguably the official protein provider of the Christmas-New Year festivity and it has been that way since chickens walk on two legs.
White meats, with chicken and turkey inclusive are mostly recommended as a healthy source of protein without the fear of cholesterol, which could have a long time effect on the heart. But the question is, is chicken really better than other meat source all because it is white?
According to Mrs Yemisi Solanke-Lawal, nutritionist and CEO, Evergreen Health and Social Care International Limited, Lagos State, chicken in itself has numerous health benefits but to enjoy the best of chicken, it must be de-skinned.
Chicken has some very interesting health benefits; lean organic chicken is a very good source of high density, low fat protein, and a good source of selenium, zinc, niacin, Vitamin E, beta-carotene, and Vitamins B6 and B12.
Experts have explained that the protein in chicken lends itself to muscle growth and development and help support a healthy body weight and aid weight loss.
Chicken, like its brother fowl, turkey, is high in an amino acid called tryptophan, which gives you that comforting feeling after consuming a big bowl of mom's chicken soup. In fact, if you're feeling depressed, eating some poultry will increase the serotonin levels in your brain, enhance your mood, blasting stress, and lulling you to sleep.
Chicken is also found worthy of preventing bone related ailments like osteoporosis and arthritis. Every good source of protein is capable of enriching the work rate of the heart and chicken is not left out.
Enough said about the benefits of chicken, the worrisome aspect is the fact that the part where we find more delicious is the part experts have warned us against and that is the skin.
Mrs Solanke-Lawal hinted that eating the skin of chicken should be discouraged because chicken skin is high in Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) commonly known as 'bad' cholesterol, which has been proven to cause a number of health problems.
The extent of 'bad' in the cholesterol is more than meet the eye. As LDL starts building up, it actually clings to the insides of arteries. This plaque formation makes arteries incredibly narrow and hard, which is a condition called atherosclerosis. Because of the constriction, blood doesn't flow as freely. Blood cells could get stuck or, as the blood passes through, part of the plaque could break off. A clot could occur, stopping or dramatically slowing blood flow. If a blood clot does occur, it could cut off blood circulation to your heart or brain, which causes a heart attack or stroke, respectively.
Furthermore, experts revealed that cholesterol doesn't dissolve in the blood. Instead, it bonds to carriers called lipoproteins, which transport it between cells. Lipoproteins are made up of fat on the inside and protein on the outside.
There are two main types of cholesterol that are carried by different types of lipoproteins.  Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) are sometimes called "bad" cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol can build up in your arteries, causing heart disease. High-density lipoproteins (HDL) are referred to as "good" cholesterol. HDL cholesterol carries cholesterol from other parts of your body back to the liver. Your liver then processes the cholesterol out of your body. It is important to have healthy levels of both types of cholesterol.
People with high cholesterol have twice the risk of heart disease as people with healthy levels of cholesterol. Statins, the most common medication that treats high cholesterol, are the most widely-used drugs in all of human history.
Some questions have been raised as to whether chicken should be de-skinned before cooking or after cooking.
Nutritionists have not been able to agree on whether the skin should be cooked along or not.
Some argued that cooking the skin with the body injects good flavour in the chicken and lowers the fat calories.
Mrs Solanke-Lawal however answered that de-skinning the chicken before cooking is more ideal. She added that "although some argue that the skin provides its own flavour, which adds to the taste of the cooked chicken, the fact is that even if that were so, when it comes to healthy eating, we should be more focused on good health than the flavour."

Michael Knights & Thomas Ricks, Foreign Policy: What Would a Saudi-Iran War Look Like? Don't look now, but it is already here

When asked to address the question of what a Saudi-Iran war would look like, my first instinct is to ask the reader to look around because it is already happening. As the futurist William Gibson noted, "the future is already here — it's just not very evenly distributed." Already, Saudi Arabia and Iran are killing each other's proxies, and indirectly are killing each other's advisors and troops, in Yemen, Syria, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia's Shiite Eastern Province.

The future is likely to look similar. The existing pattern will intensify, eventually spill over in a short, sharp direct clash, and then sink back down again to the level of proxy wars in other people's territories.

A convicted armed robber, Rasak Ogedengbe, 25, has been sentenced to death by hanging.

Ogedengbe's journey to the gallows began when he attacked the family of one Mr Chukwujekwu who just returned from church at Ejigbo and carted away some of their valuables, which included money, wrist watches and phones.
The victim had gone to report at Ejigbo police station when he saw Ogedenge in the police van after the suspect had already been arrested by the police.
The police searched the polythene bag with him and found some of the valuables stolen from the victim.
Ogedengbe did not produce any witness and also pleaded not guilty to the offence but the prosecution had called two witnesses to testify and all their evidence were taken by the court.
While delivering her judgment, the presiding judge, Hon.Justice Olabisi Akinlade said that Ogedengbe was accused of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery under Section 403 and 402 of the criminal code, law of Lagos State 2003.
She said that the prosecution has been able to prove the elements of armed robbery and conspiracy and therefore found Ogedengbe guilty of both offences.
He was therefore sentenced to death by hanging.

Hairdresser, who dumped her kids for botched Libya trip opens up!

Read..This is the news for you ....peeps ...always come back for more......culled from kfb

NOW THE NEWS IN FULL.....

Jan 12th 2016, 06:34

One of the four women saved from being trafficked to Libya last week has said she dumped her two children for her husband for the botched trip.
According to the Nation newspaper, twenty-six-year-old Cecilia Bankole, a hairdresser and three others, were rescued from a suspected trafficker, Ganiyat Ajijola, who was arrested at Abule-Egba , Lagos by Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives, last Friday.
Her husband, she said, resisted her plan to abandon the children in search of job in Libya.
According to her, when the issue was discussed with her husband initially, he disagreed with the plan.
Bankole said:

"I told my husband to allow me to go so that I would have an opportunity to raise funds for the family. I pleaded with him but he insisted in having the custody of his children. Although, I am a hairdresser but I have not graduated. So, going to Libya to work as an artisan would enable me raise funds for my freedom as well as take care of my family. Even, when my mother pleaded with him that she would be taking care of the children while I will be away, he still declined. However, after much persuasion, my husband threatened that if I go, he would take the custody of the children and would never allow me to see them again," she added.
The suspected trafficker, she said, did not tell them how long they would stay in Libya.
"The trafficker didn't tell us the number of years we are going to spend in Libya. She only told us the due date of the passport and that we are going by road," she said.
But her mother, Mrs Maria Bankole, said the suspect told her that her daughter would be re – united with her after two years.
"I was informed that a big madam, whom Ganiat Ajijola was working for in Libya needs hairdressers to help her manage her shop. Upon hearing that the people will be going abroad, I volunteered my daughter because she is a hairdresser. I begged her husband but he declined to allow her go on the trip but I have prayed about it and God said she should go. That is why I am encouraging her", she said.
Mrs Bankole, a prophetess, added:
"I followed them to the point where they were arrested because I want to know Ajijola before their departure. I am not aware they were going by road. They told me Ajijola was taking them to Abeokuta to arrange an international passport for them".
RRS operatives, who had been trailing the suspect for weeks were acting on a tip–off from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The suspect and her victims have been immediately transferred to National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP).
