Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Austin- Tam George, has expressed shock that former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi expended N82million to host Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka to a 3 hour dinner at a period he refused to pay salaries .

Addressing Government House, Port Harcourt correspondents on Tuesday, Dr Tam George said that the figures were contained in the hand over note prepared by the former Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Information and Communication under the Amaechi administration.

He said : "A government that did not pay salaries, closed the courts , but the administration had the courage to expend N82million to fund a dinner for Prof Wole Soyinka.

"These are facts on ground. The Amaechi administration expended the money under the heading of borrowed funds."

The Information Commissioner : " There is a massive propaganda machine out there misinforming the people about the policy direction of Governor Wike's administration. They have to respect the will of the people. Instead, they go about spreading falsehood against the people of the state ".

He charged the news men to emphasize the developmental achievements of Governor Wike with facts because Rivers State is currently dealing with a " disastrous legacy of abandoned projects" by the Rotimi Amaechi's administration.

Dr. George who noted that the Wike administration is currently facing a combination of " 85% information war" and " political fundamentalism" also said the APC seeking to establish a " political caliphate" in Rivers State, by installing Dr. Dakuku whose is a fake political candidate of the APC.

The Commissioner also described those who said Wike' s government is serving only Ikwerre interests as talking " anthropological nonsense" because he is running an all- inclusive of government of indigenes from the 23 LGAs of Rivers State.

A California-based company Faraday Future today (Jan 5 , 2016) unveiled its sleek electric concept car during the annual CES show. The company calls the cool ride FFZero1 while others have nicknamed it 'Tesla-killer' .The company's senior vice president of research and development, Nick Sampson, says he expects the first production car to be produced in two years. Here are key features of the FFZero1 :

The 1,000-horsepower FFZero1 includes the ability to exceeed 200mph (321 kph) and accelerate from zero to 60mph in less than three seconds.

The adjustable chassis can accommodate strings of batteries that are more easily changed than single batteries. The number of batteries would depend on car size

It also includes a helmet to provide oxygen and water to the driver.

The battery-powered FFZero1 would project information over the driver's line of sight, the company said.

The teardrop shape and aerodynamic tunnels that allow air to flow through the car and cool the batteries

The company is only 18 months old and believes its the future of cars . Exciting isn't it ?

Dunia Sibomana was considered the lucky one when a group of chimpanzees jumped from the trees and attacked him and 2 other boys as they played near a preserve in their native Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dunia, unlike the others, survived. But he was severely disfigured: His lips ripped off and one cheek torn apart, leaving him with muscle damage that make it hard for him to eat, swallow and communicate.

Now, eight-year-old Dunia is set to undergo a rare and complicated surgery at a Long Island hospital that will use tissue and muscle from his forearm to recreate both lips. The hope is that he will once again be able to open and close his mouth, and eat and talk normally.

Dr. Leon Klempner, an associate professor of dentistry at Stony Brook Children's Hospital, where Dunia will undergo the operation, said: 'As you can imagine, not having any lips, the food can just come right out.

'He drools all the time and can't pronounce different words.'

Dunia had also stopped going to school because the other children in his native Congo ridiculed him.

Monday's planned eight-hour procedure will be the first of three major operations for Dunia, who was brought from the Congo in November with the help of the non-profit foundation Smile Rescue for Kids.

Dr. Alexander Dagum, the hospital's chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery, said he believes there are only three other documented cases where the same surgery has been performed. The hospital is covering the cost of the surgery and the doctors have all donated their time.

Since the attack two years ago, which killed Dunia's four-year-old brother and a young cousin, Dunia has been the target of bullies and become shy and withdrawn.

In his short time in the United States, he has been living with a host family on Long Island, attending elementary school and learning English in addition to his native Swahili.

Appearing for an interview with this doctors on Monday, Dunia, buried himself in video games on a tablet and colored with markers. He occasionally stuck his tongue out at the doctors as they explained the procedure.

Klempner said: 'We're feeling very optimistic. We're hoping after the surgery he'll reintegrate into society and perhaps go back to school or have some semblance of a normal life.'

Luis Enrique's team face their city rivals in the first leg of the last 16 Copa del Rey tie, the second of three meetings between the sides in the space of just 11 days

The new year of 2016 continues apace with Barça taking on Espanyol for the second time in the space of just five days. The league encounter on Saturday in the RCDE Stadium ended in a 0-0 draw with blaugrana boss Luis Enrique describing the result as 'fair'. This Wednesday at 8.30pm CET the Catalan derby moves to Camp Nou for the first leg of the two clubs' clash in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.

The blaugranes trained for the final time on Tuesday ahead of the second of three meetings in 11 days against their city rivals (the second leg of the Cup tie is on Wednesday 13 February at the RCDE Stadium, kick off 9.00pm CET). Sergi Roberto missed the session with a slight knock and was not one of the 18 players named by coach Luis Enrique for the game at Camp Nou. The squad includes both Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal, fresh from finally being registered officially as Barça players and having their shirt numbers assigned. The complete list is as follows: Ter Stegen, Masip, Piqué, Rakitic, Sergio, Dani Alves, Arda Turan, A.Iniesta, Suárez, Messi, Neymar Jr, Mascherano, Bartra, Munir, Jordi Alba, Aleix Vidal, Vermaelen and Mathieu.

Espanyol coach Constantin Galca named a 19 man squad for his club's trip across the city to face Barça. Missing due to injury is former blaugrana Víctor Sánchez, as are defender Arbilla and midfielder Cañas. Ciani and Mamadou come back into the squad but Rober Correa misses out.

Coaches' viewpoint

"We shall play as if there is no second leg." That was how Barça coach Luis Enrique defined his side's approach to the game against Espanyol at Camp Nou in his pre-game press conference on Tuesday. With regards to the presence of both Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal in the squad, the Asturian revealed: "Both of them will get the chance to wear the Barça shirt and play a part in the match."

Former Espanyol player Constantin Galca faces just his fifth game in charge of 'los pericos' since taking over in December from the sacked Sergio González. The Rumanian appeared in front of the press on Tuesday and admitted that following the stalemate in the league at the weekend, he expected an "FC Barcelona more in the game, with a desire to score and win. It will be an even more difficult game. We are up against the best team in the world and their players will want to win for reasons of pride."

Barça's 0-0 draw with Cup rivals Espanyol last weekend in the league allowed Atlético to take top spot in La Liga. However, the blaugranes do have a game in hand and are currently only two points behind Diego Simeone's side. Luis Enrique's team are the current Copa del Rey champions and have won 10 of their last 11 games in the competition.

Espanyol have won twice, drawn once and lost once in the four games they have played since Galca took over as coach, In his first game in charge his team claimed a 2-1 home win against Levante in the Copa del Rey, enough to give them a 3-2 victory on aggregate and a tie against city rivals FC Barcelona in the last 16.

History

Luis Enrique and Constantin Galca have at least one thing in common, both are now coaches at clubs where they featured as players. In fact, the two came up against each other on the field in no less than 10 Catalan derbies with the Barça boss winning on six occasions and drawing four. In the Copa del Rey the two Barcelona clubs have come across each other on 17 occasions, even meeting in the final way back in 1957, Barça coming out on top that day 1-0. The blaugranes have made it through to the next round in the last eight ties, the most recent a 3-2 aggregate win in the quarter-finals in 2008/09.

Real Madrid's new manager Zinedine Zidane was welcomed by the club's players with a handshake earlier today but not all were happy about his appointment as coach following Rafa Benitez's sack . Zidane says he accepts that Gareth Bale was against the sacking of Rafa Benitez but reassured the Manchester United target that he remains a vital part of his plans.

"I understand that Gareth could be annoyed by Rafa's departure because he was a very important coach in his career .But he is going to receive the same affection from me. He is fundamental for the team and what he has been doing of late for us on the pitch is phenomenal. He will have all my support so that he continues to play well for us," Zinedine Zidane said .

Asked if he would persist with the BBC front-three of Bale, Benzema, and Cristiano Ronaldo, the new manager said:

'Yes the very clear idea that we have is that we will play with the three strikers.'

DPR Seals Three Petrol Stations Hoarding Fuel In Akure

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sealed three filling stations found to be hoarding fuel in Akure.

The officials of the DPR in Ondo State, led by the Deputy Operations Controller of the Akure office, Godwin Obasuyi, made the disclosure to Channels Television.

Channels TV’s investigation revealed that many independent petroleum marketers in Akure were yet to comply with the new official pump price of petrol as directed by the Federal Government and Mr Obasuyi insisted that no independent marketer was allowed to sell above the official pump price of 86.50 Naira.

While some major marketers said that they did not have the product, others were selling the product to the public at prices as high as 120 Naira per litre.

The Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Ore Depot, Bayode Olowookere, explained that they were lifting fuel from private depots at prices higher than the official price and hence could not sell at the official price ordered by the Federal Government.

A Russian politician's attempt to look humble has been ridiculed after he was seen wearing a luxury swiss watch. Russian politician Vitaly Milonov, bought a new £6,000 Lada Vesta, a modest Russian family car, and invited a television crew to join him as he made the purchase.

However, his modesty and patriotism stunt wasn't the main talking point to arise from the photo, as Twitter users focused on his wristwatch, a Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine which retails for £6,800.

He paid for half the car at the dealership with the other half to be paid over three years in installments.

Reuters: More guards killed in Islamic State attacks on Libya's oil ports

Islamic State militants attacked checkpoints near the Libyan oil port of Es Sider for a second day on Tuesday and an oil storage tank in the port was set on fire by a long-range rocket, a spokesman for the security guards said.

Ali Hassi said militants had attacked checkpoints 30-40 km (19-25 miles) from the port, and that two guards were killed and 16 wounded in the fighting. Seven guards were killed and 25 were wounded in Monday's clashes, he said.

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) said the oil tank fire started just as firefighters were close to bringing under control another blaze at an oil tank that was hit during fighting in the nearby port of Ras Lanuf on Monday.

Both fires were still burning on Tuesday afternoon.
